NEAT stands for Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis and a great way to track this is by simply tracking your steps on your phone or watch.
SEDENTARY = 5,000 steps or less per day
LIGHTLY ACTIVE = 5,000-10,000 p/d
ACTIVE = 10,000-12,000 p/d
HIGHLY ACTIVE = 12,000 + p/d
I always recommend to my Clients to try to hit 10,000 steps a day but by increasing 20% as a starting point to what your current levels are would be highly beneficial.
By increasing your informal cardio levels this will have a significant impact on your health and fitness and as it is low intensity, it will not interfere with performance or recovery.
Small changes in NEAT can make a huge difference in gain. Especially if you are eating a well balanced diet.
So step it up a notch and notice the difference!
